Sven Andrighetto posera ses valises à Genève

Genève-Servette Hockey Club is pleased to announce the signing of 19-year-old Swiss forward Sven Andrighetto for the following three years, from the 2013-2014 season to the 2015-2016 season. There is an NHL release clause in his contract that is valid every year of the deal.

It is the opinion of all specialists that GSHC have signed one of Swiss hockey’s best young talents. Sven Andrighetto started his career at Dübendorf, before his offensive qualities saw him get a move to the Zurich Lions. It was with Zurich’s Novices Elite team that he won the national championship in 2010.

The season after, he made his senior debut with the GCK Lions. After 36 games and 23 points with Zurich’s second team, he attracted the attention of Viège, who were looking to strengthen their forward line for the Playoffs. He was part of the Haut-Valaisans LNB winning team. During the spring, he was drafted 11th in the Canadian Hockey League’s “import draft” by Rouyn-Noranda who are Québec’s Junior Major Hockey League.

Since his debut with the Huskies, he has imposed himself as a dominant force and in his first season he gained 74 points (36 goals) in 62 games making him the highest point scorer in his team (22nd in the LHJMQ, 3rd European player). He is doing even better this season with 50 point (20 goals) in 28 games and is currently in the top 10 point scorer in the LHJMQ. He was also selected in the All-Star recruit team for the LHJMQ in 2011-2012.

Doing his work in both ends of the rink, he is helping Rouyn-Noranda become one of the serious title contenders for this year’s LHJMQ. He will participate in the under 20’s World Championships with Switzerland in the role of offensive leader.

Chris McSorley: “We are very happy to be able to Sven Andrighetto’s signature with GSHC. To be able to obtain the services of such a good young player we had to beat other teams in the LNA. Sven is a very compete and dynamic attacking player. What I have heard from his Québecan coaches is very positive and they all consider him one of the most enjoyable players they get to train: and from the point of view of the staff of the Swiss under 20’s, we think he will have a big future. I am sure that the fans will quickly make Sven Andrighetto one of their favourites. From the sporting perspective, I am sure that he will quickly make defenses around the country very nervous. We are also sure that he will always put the team above his personal performances. We have the chance to benefit from an excellent player and we know that we have a real gem on our hands.”

Sven Andrighetto: “I am sure that Genève-Servette’s offer is the best one for me at this stage of my career. Chris McSorley’s system is one that will suit me and that I like playing in. I am looking forward to next season and to meeting my new teammates and a new city.”
