LHC vs. GSHC: fatal third period

GSHC went to Lausanne Tuesday evening for the second derby of the season, and the very first in the Malley 2.0 arena of Lausanne HC.

GSHC started this match with a great desire, and it took only 6 minutes to Romain Loeffel to open the scoring for GSHC! But a penalty soon felt against GSHC, allowing Lausanne to equalise inthe 10th minute of power play.

In the 18th minute of the first period, it was Geneva's turn to take the lead and create a few good opportunities, but failed to score.

But with the two teams barely playing again, Tanner Richard can beat Huet 23 seconds before the end of the period.

GSHC then returned to the dressing room with a one-goal advantage.

Lausanne HC came back in the ice with a lot of intensity and hurt the Geneva defence. But GSHC defence did hold the situation and shown some game confidence. Adam Hasani gave GSHC an extra head start in midway through the game. Unfortunately, Pesonen did reduce the score for a minute and ten seconds later for Lausanne HC.

Two players from Geneva were then on the penalty bench, offering Lausanne HC the opportunity to equalize.

Two minutes later, Ryser was able to trump Robert Mayer's vigilance again and scored 4-3. We played the 37th minute and Lausanne took the lead for the first time in this game.

But the third period was not finished. As GSHC was fighting to equalize, Cody Almond took the power play opportunity to hit the puck straight to the goal only one second left before the end of the period: 4-4.

Who would have bet on such a score after 40 minutes in a match between two teams that haven't scored much since the start of the season? No one.

During the third period, the penalties did jeopardize Geneva's will. A first overcrowding allowed Lausanne to take the lead (42nd). And two minutes later, one player too many on the ice, one GSHC player on the bench, created occasion for Herren to score the 6-4 in power play. We've been playing for less than four minutes in the last period when Lausanne was already two lengths behind the scoreboard.

Trutmann raised the score again at the 48th, this time to 5-5. And it was Genazzi who finally completed the Lausanne work in the 56th minute to finish with a score of 8-4. A missed opportunity for GSHC, who were still leading 1-3 in the half-match.

"We didn't know how to play as a team when it was necessary to lock Lausanne up," said Craig Woodcroft, GHC Head Coach, at the end of the game. "So we took too many avoidable penalties and let them back into the game. "

No time to repeat: the next appointment for GSHC is set for Thursday. GSHC will be keen to get back in front of their public against Ambri-Piotta.

Come and support the Eagles!
