Genève-Servette Hockey Club’s officials are happy to announce that 32-year old American striker Jim Slater has signed up until the end of the 2015-2016 season, with an option for the following season.
The native of Petoskey, Michigan, is a one-team man in the National Hockey League. Drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2002, he joined the Georgia State team at the end of his university studies in 2005. Altogether, he has played no more than seven matches in the minor league (AHL).
When the franchise moved to Winnipeg, he became a ‘Jet’. In his ten years with Atlanta and Winnipeg, Slater has worn the team jersey 592 times, playoffs included.
Before joining the NHL, Jim Slater completed his studies at Michigan State University. He was the team’s captain and top scorer in 2003-2004 and again in 2004-2005. During his last university season, he played alongside a young defender in his freshman year, Daniel Vukovic.
Jim Slater’s arrival at Les Vernets could not have happened without the support of important people and partners in the club’ entourage. GSHC wishes to thank them warmly.
Jim Slater will wear jersey number 16. He will arrive in Geneva tomorrow morning, but will not be available to play in Zurich.

Chris McSorley: ‘Jim Slater is a player I had already identified two years ago as a serious candidate for Europe, should he become available. Jim is exactly the type of player we hope to add to our team: he gives his best, he is willing to fight on the ice and he always puts the team first. Thanks to his leadership skills, he will inspire our supporters as well as his teammates. And since he was Daniel Vukovic’s captain and teammate at Michigan State University, he comes with warm recommendations! We are happy to welcome Jim Slater and his family to Geneva.’
